5-Day Taiko Intensive Seminar

Taiko drumming & Asian swordsmanship: focus · strength · presence

Experience five days full of energy, rhythm and deep presence. In this intensive seminar, the mighty thunder of the Japanese Taiko meets the clarity and mindfulness of Asian swordsmanship. Together these two traditional paths create a powerful carrier wave for your inner transformation and release vital life force.

An intense time together awaits you — one that goes beyond mere practice and lets a strong, supportive sense of “we” emerge. When the group takes up the rhythm in a shared pulse, the room trembles — and we carry this deep sense of connection through the whole day.

1. The art of Taiko drumming

Five days allow us to dive deeply into the fascinating world of traditional Asian drumming on Shime-Daiko, Miya-Daiko and the mighty O-Daiko. Step by step I'll teach you the essential foundations:

·A strong, well-grounded stance and rooted posture.
·Precise striking techniques and conscious handling of the sticks (bachi).
·Coordination, expression and flowing, energetic interplay.
·What makes it special: Together we work on simple Taiko pieces written especially for this course. These compositions meet you exactly at your level and let the whole group dive, without pressure, into harmonious and powerful playing together.

2. Asian swordsmanship

As the ideal counterpart and complement to the drum, we use the principles of swordsmanship. Working with the wooden sword (bokken) trains qualities that directly transform your drumming:

·Complete focus: gathering the mind and arriving fully in the here and now.
·Clarity of expression: bringing each movement precisely to the point.
·Mindfulness & flow of energy: directing your own strength economically and with focus.

3. The sense of “we”: evening sessions & campfire

After the intense sessions of the day, we wind down the evening together. In the evening sessions we open the space for improvisation and give free rein to our creativity with sound. Sitting by the open fire afterwards, we share what we've experienced in a cosy circle, listen to the flames and let the community work deeply within us.

Who is this intensive seminar for?

Everyone can drum and follow the path of clarity! No musical background, rhythmic experience or prior knowledge of swordsmanship is needed. Thanks to the easy-to-learn pieces written especially for this course, getting started is effortless.

·Beginners have enough time over the five days for an easy, well-founded and truly inspiring start.
·Experienced players use the setting to noticeably deepen and refine their technique, stamina and quality of movement.
